IBAMA has authorized Petrobras to drill three additional wells in the Foz do Amazonas Basin. The wells—Manga, Crotalus and PAD Morpho—are intended to help delimit the discovery announced at the Morpho well in block FZA-M-59, approximately 175 kilometers off the coast of Amapá.
The authorization remains subject to specific conditions. Two drilling rigs may not operate simultaneously in the region, and the Amaralina Star drillship must undergo prior IBAMA inspection and demonstrate compliance with operational requirements concerning the collection of drill cuttings. Petrobras currently plans eight wells across the seven blocks it operates in the basin.
In parallel, ANP has approved the technical indication of 24 onshore exploratory blocks in the Potiguar Basin for possible inclusion in future Permanent Concession Offer cycles. The indication is not equivalent to immediate inclusion in an auction. The areas must still undergo environmental analysis, joint review by the relevant ministries and a public hearing before they may be added to the tender documents.
