PDE 2035 projects R$ 3.5 trillion in energy investment

Brazil’s final Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan for 2035 projects approximately R$ 3.5 trillion in investment across the country’s energy sector.

The plan estimates that installed electricity generation capacity will increase from approximately 255 GW to 367 GW by 2035, supported by the continued expansion of wind, solar and distributed generation.

It also projects demand for more than 6 GW of battery storage capacity, significantly above previous estimates, reflecting the growing importance of storage for grid reliability and renewable energy integration.

Market Impact

The investment outlook may create opportunities in:

  • renewable generation and battery storage
  • transmission and grid infrastructure
  • natural gas and flexible thermal generation
  • low-carbon fuels and energy transition projects
  • equipment manufacturing and associated supply chains

Legal & Regulatory Implications

Investors should monitor:

  • auction schedules and regulatory implementation
  • grid connection and access requirements
  • licensing and authorization procedures
  • financing and bankability conditions
  • interaction between federal planning and sector-specific regulation

The PDE is not itself a binding investment commitment, but it remains an important reference for public policy, regulatory development and private investment decisions.
