ANP authorizes resumption of FPSO Peregrino operations in the Campos basin

The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) has authorized the resumption of operations of the FPSO Peregrino, located in the Peregrino Field in Brazil’s Campos Basin. The platform had been shut down in August this year following an audit of its Operational Safety Management System (SGSO). According to the ANP, all required corrective measures have been implemented, allowing production to restart safely.

Discovered in 1994 and in commercial operation since 2011, the Peregrino Field is one of the most significant offshore assets in the region, located about 85 kilometers (53 miles) off the coast. During the second quarter of 2025, the FPSO recorded an average output of approximately 97,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day, underscoring its importance to Brazil’s energy sector.

The authorization comes as the asset undergoes a change of ownership. In May 2025, Prio announced the acquisition of 100% of the Peregrino and Pitangola fields, previously operated by Equinor, which held a 60% stake. The transaction is still subject to approval by the ANP and Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), with completion expected by mid-2026.

According to Prio CEO Roberto Monteiro, the ANP’s decision reaffirms confidence in the operation and marks the return to full production capacity. He emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to safety and efficiency, which were key to securing the agency’s approval.

With the authorization granted, the Peregrino Field has resumed normal operations — a development expected to positively impact Brazil’s oil output and strengthen the offshore supply chain. The restart reinforces Prio’s position as one of the country’s leading independent operators, maintaining a strong focus on sustainability and operational excellence.
