Brazil formalises proposal to quadruple sustainable fuels by 2035

During a preparatory meeting for COP30, Brazil launched the “Belém 4×” initiative, proposing to quadruple global production and consumption of sustainable fuels by 2035.

The proposal highlights hydrogen, biogases, synthetic fuels, and bio-based alternatives as key solutions for hard-to-decarbonise sectors such as heavy industry and transport.

This move signals Brazil’s ambition to assume a leadership role in global energy transition discussions and strengthen its climate credentials ahead of COP30.
