ANP has approved geological, geophysical and economic studies concerning Oeste de Jubarte, a prospective offshore block located in the Campos Basin.
The area covers approximately 690 square kilometers within Brazil’s pre-salt polygon and is adjacent to the established Jubarte field.
The approved studies have been forwarded to the Ministry of Mines and Energy for further assessment.
The decision represents a preliminary step toward possible inclusion in the Permanent Production Sharing Offer system. It does not constitute authorization for an auction or guarantee that the entire area will be offered.
Market Impact
The potential inclusion of Oeste de Jubarte could create opportunities for:
- offshore exploration operators
- seismic and geophysical service providers
- drilling and well-service contractors
- subsea engineering companies
- offshore vessel owners
- specialized equipment suppliers
Its proximity to established production infrastructure may also attract interest from operators seeking geological and operational synergies in the Campos Basin.
Legal & Regulatory Implications
The next steps will depend on government evaluation and a decision by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE).
Prospective participants should monitor:
- formal authorization for inclusion in future bidding rounds
- production-sharing contractual terms
- environmental and operational requirements
- potential interaction with neighboring reservoirs
- future production individualization obligations
- consortium and investment structures
The recent individualization of the neighboring Jubarte reservoir demonstrates the importance of evaluating geological continuity and potential shared-reservoir obligations when assessing new exploration acreage.
