Petrobras has confirmed a new discovery of high-quality oil in the Sudoeste de Tartaruga Verde block, located in the Campos Basin, off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The oil was identified in the exploratory well 4-BRSA-1403D-RJS, situated approximately 108 kilometers from the coast of Campos dos Goytacazes, in waters 734 meters deep. The drilling of the well has been completed, and the presence of oil was confirmed through electric log analyses, gas indicators, and fluid sampling. The collected samples will undergo laboratory analyses to characterize both reservoir conditions and fluid properties, a necessary step in determining the production potential of the area.
The block was acquired by Petrobras in September 2018 during the 5th Production Sharing Bidding Round, and the company holds a 100% operating stake, with Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA) overseeing the contract. The discovery further reinforces the exploratory potential of the post-salt section of the Campos Basin, a historically strategic region for Brazil’s oil production.
