The STJ’s Special Panel unanimously accepted a new complaint by the Federal Public Ministry on May 18, making former Acre Governor Gladson Cameli a defendant for embezzlement and bid rigging in the duplication of state highway AC-405. According to the Federal Comptroller General (CGU), the scheme generated overpricing of approximately R$ 3.6 million, with the contract directed to a construction company linked to the ex-governor’s family, who also allegedly interfered directly in payment schedules and construction supervision. The decision occurred on the same day Cameli was sentenced by the same court to 25 years and nine months in a separate criminal proceeding.
